Academic Recognition Ceremony

The Golden State Seal Merit Diploma recognizes High School Seniors who have demonstrated mastery of the high school curriculum in at least six subject areas.  It is awarded jointly by the State Board of Education and the State Superintendent of Public Instruction. A seal will be affixed to their diploma. 

• English Language Arts (B+ or higher)

• Mathematics (B+ or higher)

• Science (B+ or higher)

• US History (B or higher)

• Two other subject areas (B or higher)

The Seal of Biliteracy recognizes high school Seniors who have attained a high level of proficiency in one or more languages in addition to English. A seal will be affixed to their diploma. 

• Completion of all English language arts requirements for graduation with an overall grade point average of 2.0 or above.

• Passing the California Standards test in English language arts administered in grade 11 at the proficient level or above.

• Demonstration of proficiency in one or more languages in addition to English
